This might bode well for Twitch or it might not. I don't know. I don't see how this is good news for JTV. Assuming the deal goes through (and there likely will be a Justice Department review), and assuming JTV is part of the deal, why would Google mess with JTV? That's not why they are buying Twitch. My guess is that Google will simply close the small JTV unit and be done with it. Best case would be if some other buyer wants to take JTV off Google's hands and try to find a profitable business model for it. I think that's a long shot. I'm not writing JTV's obituary yet but, coupled with the trends I highlighted in an earlier post AND the recent shedding of features and costs, it's not looking good.
I'm a little late to this story. Thanks to Stir for cluing me in. Here's the original story in Variety: http://variety.com/2014/digital/news/youtube-to-acquire-videogame-streaming-service-twitch-for-1-billion-sources-1201185204/ And here is some information on Twitch itself from a recent industry conference: http://seekingalpha.com/article/2224683-heres-why-youtube-would-want-to-buy-twitch-and-how-big-their-market-is
