In percentage terms, the Cardinals had the most devoted fans. An incredible 99.4% of the available Busch Stadium capacity was sold for the year, followed closely by the Giants at 99.2% and Boston at 98.5%. No other team was in the 90s.
Where can you almost always find a seat at game time? Once again, Cleveland draws the dubious distinction. More seats were empty than were occupied for the year as the Indians sold only 42.4% of their inventory. Sunbathing on the shores of Lake Erie was more appealing last summer, I guess. Every other team sold more than half their seats, including the White Sox (just barely) at 51.5%. Having been there a couple of times, I can definitely say that there are better places to go to a baseball game than Chicago's South Side.
Who was the top draw on the road? Hands down, it was the Yankees in both average attendance (35,512 per away game) and percentage of capacity (85.2%), helped no doubt by the Jeter farewell tour. The weakest road draw? Would you believe the World Series-bound Kansas City Royals? KC drew an average of 26,872 paid and 62.8% of the available seats when they played away from Kauffman Stadium. Blame those slacker Indian fans who won't turn out to see ANY team, even division rivals.
